New Testament Introduction II

This course is a continuation of New Testament Introduction I, which provided an understanding of the history and background to the New Testament and a survey of the Gospels and Acts. New Testament Introduction II introduces the New Testament books from Romans to Revelation. It surveys the context, purpose and theological message of the books as well as the background and development of the early church.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course the student should:

  1. have read through the New Testament books from Romans to Revelation and chosen one verse from each book that helps to remember the content.
  2. be aware of the current issues involved in the interpretation of these books and also learn some hermeneutical principles of interpreting the Epistles.
  3. be able to identify major themes and theological issues in each book that faced the New Testament church and relate them to the situation today.
  4. be able to give an account of the ministry of Paul as missionary, theologian, and pastor.

 

ABOUT THE LECTURER:

Dr. Fritz Deininger (Th. D. in New Testament, University of South Africa, Th.M. New Testament Theology, M.A. in Missiology Columbia International University, B.A. Theological Seminary Chrischona) serves as Coordinator of the ICETE Programme for Academic Leadership (IPAL).

Together with his wife they served in Thailand from 1981 to 2008 in church planting, leadership training, and theological education. At Bangkok Bible Seminary he gained leadership experience in theological education as academic dean. From 2011 – 2013 he served as an associate professor of Columbia International University (CIU). He teaches some courses at the Academy for World Mission in Germany.

Areas of interest include leadership development, integrated theological education, spiritual formation, Bible exposition, NT studies, world religions, world missions, contemporary issues, and ethics.
